Les Enfants Terribles Laval

Oh Laval, sometimes you surprise us. Diva #2, Spooner and another colleague were visiting a client for work and after a successful meeting, we felt a celebratory lunch was in order.

We were close to Laval and decided to go to Les Enfants Terribles in Centropolis.  We had been to Les Enfants Terribles Outrement, back when a certain diva was chasing Mr. Wonderful and we were bursting with good intentions. Click HERE, for that review!

Spooner, and our other colleague opted to order from the table d’hôte menu which came with a choice of soup or salad.  Diva #2 decided to start her meal with the salmon tartare.

The tartare, which can be ordered as an appetizer or a main meal, was light and fresh.  A little squeeze of lime was all that was necessary to compliment the cilantro flavour; everything was very well balanced.  Our only complaint was that we would have liked more toast points, but that’s just us.

One of the table d’hôte items was the endive salad with grilled chicken.  A very generous portion arrived at the table, studded with plenty of sharp and creamy blue cheese to contrast the bitter endives.  There was a good amount of grilled chicken, no skimping here, and the candied pecans added the right amount of crunch.

“Mahi mahi poele, sauce puttanesca: Risotto cake, kale and carrots” 23$

A firm and flaky piece of grilled mahi mahi sat on top of a risotto cake with kale and carrots.  Definitely a healthy and filling lunch, the fish was draped with a puttanesca sauce, usually reserved for pasta, it complimented the fish with its saltiness.

The mac and cheese was the perfect choice and can also be ordered in two sizes.  Bathed in a creamy cheesy sauce, Diva #2 burnt her tongue, too eager to take her first bite.  Served in a cast iron dish, there were pieces of salty bacon and healthy kale among the cheese sauce.  There was also a nice layer of broiled melted cheese that formed a delicious crust over the dish.  Definitely one of the better Mac and cheeses that we’ve had!

We lingered over our coffees and gossiped about work; it was nice to be out of the office.  Though we don’t often venture into Laval, we were pleasantly surprised by Les Enfants Terribles in Centropolis.  The restaurant is large but quickly filled up during the lunch period, the food is delicious and yes, we’d go again.  So if you find yourself off island, don’t panic, there are a few good places to eat, and Les Enfants Terribles is one of them!
