Food Bloggers of Canada 2012-2013

Our fabulous little Montreal restaurant blog released its first ten posts on Thanksgiving weekend, in October 2012, so imagine our surprise when in November 2012, Food Bloggers of Canada (FBC) asked to interview us as their “Featured Member Blog.” On November 23rd, 2012 our interview was posted on their website, click HERE to read it. It was tons of fun, they sent us questions about how we started our blog, how we chose our name, our friends’ nicknames, etc. Then they asked us our favourite questions, those are foodie questions, such as the post that we are the most proud of. We didn’t even hesitate, at the time it was Maison Publique because we met Montreal-famous Chef Derek Dammann…and managed to make fools of ourselves in front of him. This is the effect that alcohol has on the Divas, our egos grow exponentially, and we don’t stop talking…someone muzzle us!

We discussed which post we wish had received more love, which in 2012 was Le Pois Penché, but now in 2014 we have a few more fabulous posts that we wish readers commented on, and simpler posts that somehow got more attention! It is funny looking back and seeing the comments that we considered harsh in 2012, back then we didn’t even review our comments before having them posted onto our site, anyone could post at any time without Diva approval. Times have changed; some people became a bit too comfortable wrapped in the anonymity that the internet offers, and now we approve all comments before they are posted on our site. Back then we told FBC that Verses was our post that stimulated the most discussion amongst our readers… we certainly can think of many more argument inducing posts that have gone up since then – yikes!

The interview ended with a recipe of our favourite food, in which P’tit Frère insisted that Diva #1 list her Mac n’ Cheese recipe. Being interviewed by FBC was fun and fabulous, it made us feel warm and fuzzy inside! But it didn’t end there; in 2013 the Food Bloggers of Canada began their Restaurant Roundup. Once a month they would ask different bloggers across Canada to link one of their favourite posts depending on the subject of the month. We joined in on some of these, our first being Canada’s Favourite Pizza joint, posted on April 9, 2013, to see it click HERE. Different bloggers from major Canadian cities proclaimed their love for different pizza joints, our pick was Bevo Bar + Pizzeria. We gushed about their specialty pizza with black truffle shavings, wild mushrooms, pancetta, arugula and a very generous amount of burrata. Somehow our night at Bevo ended with us at the wood burning oven making Nutella Pizza for our dessert, it can never be simple with the Divas!

On June 12th 2013 we were featured in another Restaurant Roundup for Le Boucan, this time the topic was Canada’s Favourite BBQ Joints, to see Canada’s picks click HERE. This one came with another anecdotal story; we just can’t seem to behave, even when we are on our own! Back in 2013 we were still doing our absolute best to be anonymous, but as our Sensei once chastised us “we threw away our anonymity like a virgin takes off her dress on prom night.” Much like our virginities, our anonymity was compromised quite early on in life (or our blogging life) at Le Boucan. Our waiter, unbeknownst to us was in charge of the restaurant’s social media, he caught on that the two girls tweeting as the Montreal Food Divas… were us. Mind you, Le Boucan is a small BBQ joint and like most saucy-meat-loving restaurants, the men are usually aplenty and women few and far between. Let alone two women sitting alone, photographing all their food, seemingly plotting…so much for our anonymity *unzips dress* !!!!

The fun continued when in 2013 we posted a review on our favourite Montreal Food Trucks, of course we couldn’t just choose one, so we listed a bunch and spoke about all the delicious items that we tasted from each one. On August 12th, 2013 FBC asked us to choose a food truck in Montreal for that month’s restaurant round up. It was hard to choose, and usually we are all about favouritism, but somehow we couldn’t decide so we discussed our favourite Montreal food trucks in general. But we chose to include a divine picture of the Camion Au Pie de Cochon with their “foie gras poutine,” “duck leg confit” in a maple BBQ Sauce and their “beigne cochon,” which is making us drool just referencing it. To see Canada’s Favourite Food Trucks click HERE. We look forward to writing about all the new food trucks that have popped up in 2014 and writing another review on our favourite ones, but can anyone beat PDC? We will soon find out.

Our last Restaurant Roundup for the Food Bloggers of Canada was our favourite soup & sandwich spot in Montreal. Once again we had to be difficult and we couldn’t choose one so we chose two that we had featured in our Lunch in Old Montreal post. On September 11th, 2013 we wrote about two spots for FBC, Marché de la Villette and Olive et Gourmando, located next door to each other in Old Montreal. To see Canada’s favourite soup and sandwich spots, including ours, click HERE. These two little lunch spots are very different, Marché de la Villette is a more traditional French bistro with charcuterie and cheese platters, as well as a divine French Onion Soup. While Olive et Gourmando is a very modern lunch spot and bakery, and we adored their “Le Fameux Cubain” sandwich with braised pork, pancetta, gruyère and their chipotle mayo. We love Montreal and it isn’t always about dinner for the Divas, sometimes you need to know where to go to get a quick bite to eat, like a soup and sandwich. Or like Diva #2 pronounces it in her Italian accent: sangwisc.

Alas all good things must come to an end and Food Bloggers of Canada informed us that they were no longer doing their monthly Restaurant Roundup, or perhaps they were simply fed up of the chatty Divas; nahhh! We had a lovely time referencing our posts and allowing the rest of Canada to know the best restaurants that Montreal has to offer in a variety of categories. Since then we have been to endless Montreal Food Events, and we were featured in Eat In Eat Out Magazine. We have been on Global Montreal’s Foodie Fridays five separate times, and are starting a fun collaboration with montreall.com. It is safe to say that our anonymity has been forsaken due to our love of good times, bad decisions and because Diva #1 is awful at keeping secrets 😉

Hello Divas! Thanks for including us in your fun write up. We just wanted to assure you that the restaurant roundups have not gone away – we’re simply focusing on one city at a time this year starting in the west – we’ve done Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg and we’re just heading into Ontario for July and August. We’ll make it to Quebec by fall and we will absolutely be asking the Divas to help us out with a Montreal roundup!

My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your post’s
to be what precisely I’m looking for. Do you
offer guest writers to write content in your case? I wouldn’t mind creating a post or elaborating on many of the subjects you write
with regards to here. Again, awesome weblog!
