The Sud-Ouest was missing a little dash of Italian, and if you follow these Divas, you know that the mention of Italian pizza and pastries make our bellies rumble. Rosetta is a new Italian bakery and patisserie in St-Henri, on Notre-Dame. Since Montreal is all about that fusion touch they also serve macarons, croissants, chocolatines, and a few French pastries for good measure.
We don’t know about you, but forget chocolate chips cookies, Italian cookies are the way to go. Of course, we tried everything twice to ensure that we were recommending the absolute best to our dear readers. Our favourite cookie was their shortbread cookies with a hint of orange and a drizzle of chocolate, we couldn’t have enough of those. Nom Nom Nom!
As promised, not everything is Italian, their croissants and chocolatines looked tantalizing, perfect for a quick breakfast on your way to work. We were at Rosetta for a media event and the nicest touch at this event was Nonna Rosetta herself; this bakery is an homage to her from her daughter and grandson. Nonna Rosetta’s cookie recipes are being used in the bakery and she even helps make some of the treats. Nonna knows best of course!
The pastries range from Italian to French, and they also offer artisanal cakes that can be ordered for any occasion. A bakery and pastry shop with croissants and pastries is fun, but Rosetta intrigued us with their ready to devour lunch options. So far, we tried Rosetta’s arancini, their antipasto skewers with marinated artichokes, cherry tomatoes, olives and prosciutto, and their marvelous roasted beet and feta cheese salad with fresh mint, toasted walnuts and a mind-blowing honey balsamic drizzle.
Rosetta also served us a delicious AAA beef filet on a crostini, with aioli, arugula, Parmigiano and a drizzle of aged balsamic. But when you think of an Italian bakery, you think of pizza al taglio, traditional Roman slab pizza that has snuck its way out of Italy and into Montreal. God dammit we love pizza al taglio, and Rosetta offers a variety of different pizzas that are very affordable. Pizza al taglio is perfect for taking to the office for a quick lunch, to a friend’s when you’re invited for dinner, or to just eat at home because it’s soooooo good that you won’t be able to resist.
Rosetta prides themselves that everything in their store is homemade, and once you have a few bites you’ll be in complete agreement. This family run business embraces what Italian heritage is all about, lots of food that begins with a Nonna in the kitchen!
