“Enjoy Life Eat Cake” is the perfect slogan for the newly opened Les Délices La Frenaie in Montreal-Ouest which is quickly impressing clients with pastries, cakes and viennoiseries. Les Délices La Frenaie has carved quite a name for themselves as an Italian bakery that first opened in St Leonard and now has multiple locations all over Montreal, more recently in Montreal-Ouest.
They’re known for their cakes, especially their custom cakes and La Frenaie specialty cakes which are popular all around Montreal. But we weren’t here for the cake, we were here for lunch and to have a little pastry, the perfect Sunday afternoon treat. You have to try their Nutella horns… actually you should try one of everything!
Known for their roman style slab pizzas, pizza al taglio, that you can order by the piece or a whole pizza to take home and indulge, we were tempted to have pizza but we were won over by the calzone. Their ricotta and rapini calzone was bursting with ricotta, the dough wasn’t too bready and the sesame sprinkled on top were a nice touch. It was the perfect start to our lunch!
We opted for the meat lasagna, but there was also a vegetarian lasagna for those so inclined. This simple Italian classic was prepared perfectly as the lasagna sheets were perfectly al dente, the meat sauce was simple and there was plenty of cheese to satisfy cheese lovers like us. Couple it with a nice arancini and you have yourself a great lunch. Trust us, we’re picky about our arancini, and we really enjoyed it at La Frenaie.
Somehow Diva #1 and Sweet Pea weren’t full, we also opted for the chicken cutlet panini with grilled vegetables. It’s prepared in front of you, you choose your bread and cheese, we opted for provolone, and you can add extras like marinated Italian eggplants and hot peppers. It’s a real Italian panini, packed full of ingredients. If you don’t feel like the chicken cutlet, they also have a variety of cold cuts that they slice right in front of you and pile into your sandwich.
Let’s not forget, La Frenaie is about the pastries, and with so many to choose from, it was hard to decide. Just look at their formidable display, your options are endless. We opted for a Nutella ricotta zeppola that was heaven in our mouths and a creamy lobster tail that was massive. Served with a cappuccino, you can’t go wrong. You don’t necessarily have to stop at La Frenaie for lunch, or to order a cake, it’s the perfect little spot to enjoy dessert and coffee, while catching up with friends.
There are a few La Frenaie locations in Montreal, but we’re a little bias towards the one in Montreal-Ouest, it’s THAT good. The staff is friendly and ready to help you with all your cake needs, and answer your questions. They have both frozen and fresh cakes, all customizable or they’ll design one to suit your needs. We love a one-stop-shop and we also love grabbing lunch while we design our cake with the experts!
Definitely put Délices La Frenaie Montreal-Ouest on your list! Who knows, maybe you’ll run into the Divas 😉
