We went for tacos on Taco Tuesday… it doesn’t get more basic than this! Le Ice & Tacos is a little takeout window, with about 10 bar stools along a counter for a fun takeout experience on Mont-Royal. They have a sit-down restaurant in Montreal North, but we were invited to try their taco window in the Plateau.
Normally each order of tacos comes with three tacos per order, but on Taco Tuesday you can mix and match tacos for 1$ each. We ordered all their carnivorous tacos but Le Ice & Tacos has vegetarian options too, with both tofu or cauliflower options. If tacos aren’t your thing, they have a pretty lengthy menu for takeoutwith burritos, Mexican burgers, varied poutines, and taquitos as an appetizer.
We tried the chicken taco, steak assada taco and the Matador taco that was a mix of chicken, steak and bacon. The Matador taco was our favourite as it was so full of ingredients. Each little three-bite taco is served on a soft shell and topped with pico de gallo and a tangy sour cream based sauce with a little kick. Expect to get a little messy eating these tacos!
You can order a trio meaning that your tacos come with their delicious breaded fries. Honestly we couldn’t have enough of these fries, they were amazing! You can also order your trio with chili and nachos, with just the right amount of kick, the chili was delicious. We even took the leftover chili home and had it with rice for lunch, it was that good. Unfortunately when we were there they had run out of avocados so we couldn’t try their guacamole, but if you try Le Ice & Tacos guac, please let us know how it tastes!
We washed down our tacos with Jarritos, a Mexican soft drink, they had carbonated fruit punch and grapefruit. We tried to order the quesadilla del patron which incorporates cheese curds with varied meats, but alas they had run out of that too. You can also order chicken, steak or queso quesadillas, but be careful because things get wild on Taco Tuesday and they tend to run out of ingredients. Churros and palettas (a Mexican popsicle) are your dessert options but we were too full to indulge. If you’re roaming the Plateau, check out Le Ice & Tacos for a quick bite!
