Sometimes your day does not end exactly as planned, sometimes you’re offered a limo ride to a new beauty bar to be pampered and prettied up before going to Somwhr Liquor Lounge for a night of questionable decision making. Well Diva #1 was sold on going to Somwhr, but she’s not particularly the limo sort. She much prefers driving herself around town, zooming in her red Mini and blasting deep house tracks. She really isn’t one for being taken care of.
Of course we have been to Somwhr before, after all, it is Montreal’s newest nightlife hot spot, popular amongst the late twenty and thirty something year olds. But Diva #1 and Sweet Pea did not start their night at Somwhr, our night began at Le Fix Beauty Bar in DDO for an evening of pampering, which is exactly what the Divas are all about.
When we walked into the beauty bar we quickly noticed two things, L’ Gros Luxe was catering the event, but more importantly, Day Jobs and the Nightlife had his head in a sink and was getting a shampoo head massage. It was quite a sight, but he still had the same foul look on his face; does this guy ever relax?
We started our soirée with delicious cocktails with watermelon and mint, the glass even had a little syringe that held a mini refill. It was delicious, fruity, but with the right amount of kick. This was the signature cocktail of the night, as well as some bubbly. We were feeling fabulous and the evening was off to a great start. Booze always wins us over!
Bloggers were getting their hair and nails done all around Le Fix Beauty Bar. Just look at Sweet Pea from Montreall.com and Ver Sepasi, photographer extraordinaire, getting their hair did. You can tell that they’re bloggers because they are on social media documenting the event, or just basic bitches, but that’s up to you dear readers.
Le Fix Beauty Bar does not cut women’s hair, it is a blowout bar for styling and coiffing before a night out on the town. It isn’t always easy to nab your hairdresser who is booked for haircuts, styles, colouring, etc. Le Fix Beauty Bar is all about that quick fix!
They had an adorable little booklet where you chose “your fix” which ranged from a classic blow dry with movement to bouncy curls, and many more options for 28$ each. We saw Tanya-Kay getting a sleek style, and a boozy Ver Sepasi getting a wash and blow dry. Diva #1 and Sweet Pea went for a curlier and bouncier look, and the cantankerous Day Jobs and the Nightlife, the only man at this event, went for a blow out and tussle of his five luscious locks.
And while we drank and got styled, we ate bites from L’ Gros Luxe like grilled eggplant canapés that were topped with bocconcini cheese, a light drizzle of balsamic vinegar and a chiffonade of basil. We had this little canapé with a squash soup that was hard to eat while standing but tasty nonetheless. All delicious but sadly there was little food, and as the hours wore on, the bloggers grew ravenous. The fashion bloggers may be used to starving themselves to fit in the perfect size 2 outfit but the food bloggers were unstable and buying sandwiches from the shop next door.
Soon salmon tartare with cucumber and avocado went by on individual crackers, always good, but never enough. We had been there for too many hours and there wasn’t enough food for the masses. We decided to also enjoy a complimentary nail polish change. Sadly both Diva #1 and Sweet Pea disliked how our nails were filed, and we wouldn’t return for a full manicure. The manicurist even had to redo the polish on Diva #1’s hands because she forgot to buff her nails so the polish went on roughly.
Alas you cannot be good at everything so though their manicurists leave much to be desired, Diva #1 and Sweet Pea absolutely loved their hair. Sweet Pea had asked for softer bouncier curls, and Diva #1 loved her tighter curly look. You can’t win them all, they did a great job with our hair, so we forgive what they did to our nails. But most importantly, Day Jobs and the Nightlife had the most adorable little tuff of fur on his head and he remained handsome and debonair, as always!
As the girls got back into the limo, Diva #1 and Sweet Pea went off to their car to make their way to Somwhr Liquor Lounge. They heard Day Jobs and the Nightlife in the distance, bidding adieu to his adoring female fans who were trying to stuff him in the limo. He told them all that he couldn’t go with them because a helicopter was awaiting for him in the back. Of course without asking, he climbed into Diva #1’s car, he was not going to be pleasant and social any longer than necessary. And he resumed his usual abuse of Diva #1 and Sweet Pea; we are so very fond of this little cherub of a man.
Le Fix Beauty Bar is a fun concept that we worry may be better suited for downtown Montreal than DDO. It’s a lovely little one-stop-spot if you want to get glammed up before going out. They offer eyelash extensions and other treats in personal care, call them up for their full list of treatment options.
But our night didn’t end there, we all ended up at Somwhr Liquor Lounge where we met up with Chomedey’s Double D and a friend for a few bottles of vodka and hazy decision making. We drank, felt fabulous in our blow outs, but we worried that we were becoming a little basic. Nahhhh!!! Sometimes it’s just nice to treat yourself and feel like goddesses, and that’s exactly what we did 😉
