L’Autre Bar

Laurier street is one of those sexy Montreal streets that will make you fall in love with our city all over again. L’Autre Bar is a touch of something new but really something old, as there has been a bar in that location since 1936. Interestingly enough Outremont was a dry borough at one point and no bar stood at this spot due to zoning laws but with time it rightfully became a bar again! We were quite happy to be invited to their opening event, testing out this fabulous little spot.

“Mousse de foie de volaille & gelée de porto (Cava Barder)” 9$

L’Autre bar has local spirits, a diversified wine list, more than 40 types of beer including a large selection from Quebec micro brewers, as well as some classic cocktails. This isn’t the spot to go to for fancy signature cocktails, but if you want a simple gin tonic or rum coke, this is the place for you. Charming and accommodating to an older crowd, it isn’t the hip new spot, but a classic, something that Montreal often lacks. They have a few bar snacks aka amuse-gueules, like a delicious chicken liver that we embarrassingly couldn’t stop eating, from Ça va Barder, an artisinal local butcher shop.

Special: Potato Pizza & Meatballs

They also serve Quebec cheeses and artisanal charcuterie, like a saucisson de lyon platter from Ça va Barder, we adore the emphasis on local products. We love a high end bar snack like charcuterie and cheese, especially when their emphasis is on their extensive wine list. A special of the evening was their meatballs, as well as a potato pizza with rosemary that we were soon fighting over. Simple and good, we had a lovely time at L’Autre Bar.

On this particularly cold winter day L’Autre Bar warmed us right up! If you’re tired of the newest trendy hot spot, but instead you want a classic wine bar, check out this revived Outremont classic. Enjoy a bottle of wine, and definitely order the high end bar snacks from Ça va Barder, you wont regret it!
