“When you have two years to live or less, you really don’t live your life the way other people do.” Jessica Scalera, the honouree at this year’s Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) Taste for Life Event, was diagnosed with brain cancer and courageously battled it for three and a half years, undergoing surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. And she came out on top, now in remission for over three years!
The Divas arrived to the VIP portion of the night along with Diva #1’s bosom buddy, who was eager to join us on one of our nights out. Who wouldn’t be eager to join such esteemed company? The VIP section had an open bar, waitresses passing out delicious bites and a few restaurants set up, including two of our favourites, Park and L’Orignal.
It’s safe to say the Divas and the shuckers of L’Orignal got along swimmingly – we got them drinks and they fed us! A beautiful relationship! They effortlessly shucked the oysters, dressed them with lemon or their delicious mignonette and handed them to us. We loved the combination of the salty brininess of the oyster and their killer cucumber mignonette!
When we weren’t parked in front of the L’Orignal station (we have a deep love for oysters, don’t judge us!), we ventured to the set-up from Antonio Park. Multiple levels of sushi were laid out before us. The individual maki were perfection – as if he can do any wrong? There are many reasons why everyone loves Park!
We met up with Day Jobs & the NightLife, who wholeheartedly approved of our new male companion and told the Divas that we should bring him to more events, something Diva #1 won’t have any objections to! Inside Time Supper Club, it was a veritable who’s who of the Montreal restaurant scene.
We couldn’t try them all but restaurants like Cho were offering pork steam buns, Harlow had salmon tartare, Suwu had mac n’ cheese grilled cheese and Taverne on the Square had a delicious looking pasta
Having been pleasantly surprised by our dinner at Buonanotte just weeks before, we did not hesitate when we saw their table set up with a plethora of fresh seafood, including our faves, oysters, this time paired with a refreshing pomegranate mignonette.
If you’ve ever been to Anabel Bar, you most definitely fell in love with their signature dish of fried gnocchi poutine. And how can you not?! Covered in a decadent, rich gravy made with crab, and peppered with fatty lardons and healthy green peas, this is a gourmet poutine that we approve of!
Salmigondis has been garnering rave reviews since it opened and is definitely on our radar. We tried their asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto and their crostini topped with creamy burrata and sweet cherry tomatoes.
There were plenty of desserts to choose from but the one that caught our eye is La Cornetteria. Serving fresh mini cannoli and mini bomboloni, we were hooked! And anyone following a diet of any sort quickly forgot about it!
Taste for Life is a great event to that brings the community together for a fun evening for a good cause. After all, anytime the food and drink is flowing, people are in a happy mood, especially the Divas. And on this night, celebrating a true survivor like Jessica was extra incentive to celebrate!
