Grillades Yasmine

This Arabic grocery store and halal lunch spot is right outside Côte-Vertu metro in Ville St-Laurent. Grillades Yasmine is not only a small lunch counter with a few seats, but also a small grocery store that sells both local and imported Arabic products like fresh pita bread, various Middle Eastern spreads, and more. The aromas wafting from their charcoal grill will hit you as soon as you get into the area, their little restaurant smells THAT good!

Grillades Yasmine, Montreal Middle Eastern Restaurant

It’s a meat lover’s haven with plenty of options to choose from like their chicken breast, half chicken, lamb chops, merguez sausage and more. You can choose to order just a sandwich of whichever meat, wrapped in pita bread or baguette, or a sandwich trio with fries and a drink. We always opt for the pita, in true Middle Eastern fashion. The third options is the plate option which includes the grilled meat with salad, as well as fries and a drink.

If you choose to eat at their restaurant take into account that because they’re cooking on charcoal, the meat takes a while to cook, but we assure you it’s worth the wait. They also deliver if you’re in the Ville St-Laurent area. Diva #1’s cousin usually orders the kafta brochettes which is basically a Lebanese style meatball that’s made with minced or ground beef or lamb, the meat is also mixed with spices and onions. It was delicious and served with pita and a harissa spicy spread that we loved.

Diva #1 opted for the filet mignon sandwich which was stuffed full of meat, and was actually spicy and definitely creamy. Even though the sandwich was packed full of ingredients, the charcoal taste of the meat really came through. We opted for pita bread but you could have had this sandwich in a baguette, but the pita bread was just so fresh and Middle Eastern. Garlic sauce was provided on the side, which was both potent and delicious. Their hummus is good but we’ve had better, so we usually opt for their garlic sauce.

Besides almost getting towed twice because Diva #1 accidentally parked at a taxi stand, and another time in the nearby pharmacy’s parking lot (never mind), we always enjoy lunch at Grillades Yasmine! Their meat has that delicious charcoal taste, their ingredients and bread are fresh, and your entire meal is inexpensive. Since it’s located in a Middle Eastern grocery store, you can shop around for a few specialty items while you wait for your meat to cook. You can also call in advance and they’ll have your food ready for you by the time you get there.

How does Yasmine compare with Abu Elias up the street which has always been a lot of people’s (myself included) gold standard? Unfortunately I find Abu Elias has recently started cutting corners so a new place in the area sounds good.

Abu Elias is definitely the better of the two options, with more variety and in our opinion the best hummus in the city! We haven’t posted our review on them yet
