Montreal summers are fleeting and overly emotional, one minute it’s 40 degrees and the next moment it’s pouring rain and the temperature is dropping. But Montrealers have always made the best of their moody weather, like a temperamental mistress, we take the idea of “terrace weather” with a grain of salt. When Global Montreal’s Morning Show had us back on Foodie Friday with Camille Ross, we decided to talk about our favourite terraces in Montreal, some for food, and others just for drinks.
Terrasses Bonsecours is located on the water in Old Montreal, and it is THE terrace in Montreal. They offer different terraces to choose from, all with varied vibes. We fell in love with their 5 à 7 on Thursdays and we love to dabble in their Boozy Brunch.
Anyone who follows the Divas knows that we are absolutely smitten by San Gennaro, this Little Italy terrace does not have a liquor license but instead, is all about the food and coffee. It’s a bakery, pizza al taglio and café that specializes in Roman slab pizza and absolutely everything delicious. We just can’t seem to get enough of this place and we show up at least once a week for a bite! Lucille’s Oyster Dive is another terrace that is more restaurant than bar, but this time with a full liquor license. Summer dishes are often heavy on the seafood, and Lucille’s Oyster Dive offers some of the best seafood in the city with a huge variety of oysters.
Terrasse Place D’Armes is a dream come true, this terrace is located on the roof of the Place D’Armes Hotel in Old Montreal. They have a few gourmet eats to choose from but it’s mainly a bar with a DJ setting the mood at night. This rooftop terrace is dependent on our finicky weather!
Buvette Chez Simon is a wine bar that is known for its charcuterie and cheese platters for those who want a bite while indulging in wine. Their terrace is on Park Avenue right where Outremont meets the Plateau and it’s packed all year long. Last but certainly not least is the infamous New City Gas, this event venue is certainly all about the cocktails. Known for their Thursday 5 à 7s all summer long, this is the place to see and be seen in Old Montreal, their terrace is filled with business people and party animals alike.
We simply adore dinner and drinks on terraces in Montreal. It was hard making this list, there are so many others that we love, but we chose the ones that we always think about when we get that yearning to sit outside and enjoy a nice meal, or a few drinks, on those perfectly rare summer days in Montreal.
