Barbs Salon & Halal Guys

Barbs, formerly known as Barberellas, on Queen Mary has been our hair salon for years. When we were invited to their event after they had a sexy facelift, aka a rebrand, we were more than happy to support such a fabulous salon.

Barbs used to only be about hair but part of their expansion was incorporating manicures and pedicures, makeup and spray tans. Known for their killer blow outs, Barbs has become a one-stop-shop for beautifying. We have always gone to see Cassandra at Barbs, but at this event we were spoiled by Andres. Just look at Darling Sweet Pea!

Sweet Pea even got her makeup done, and she looked glam! It wouldn’t be an event without snacks, and barbs had personalized sweets from Yum Creations, and BooziPop for their signature cocktail popsicles. And if BooziPop’s addictive cocktail popsicles aren’t enough, just look at the darling BooziPop monsieur riding the bicycle, we wanted to take him home with us, but we’re ladies 😉

You know the expression “all dressed up and nowhere to go,” well that was us! We had nowhere to go and we weren’t craving anything fancy so we headed over to Halal Guys on Mackay for some fast and simple Middle Eastern food. They began as a NYC hot dog truck in 1990 and saw a demand for halal fast food by Muslim cab drivers.

Halal Guys has now expanded all over the USA, into Canada, as well as the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. Their Montreal menu is simple, you can opt for pita wraps or platters, with falafels, chicken, gyro, or chicken and gyro. Our favourite was the falafel platter! Their trio comes with fries and a drink and you can order hummus on the side which is exactly what we did.

Other than their regular size platters, they also have the NYC size, which is much larger.  We ordered the regular size and couldn’t finish all that meat on rice with their famous white sauce, and red sauce. We can’t imagine what it’s like eating the NYC platter! Their white sauce is a mayo based Middle Eastern sauce and their red sauce is hot. These guys know what spicy means, their hot sauce is actually spicy, and trust us when we say that we can handle our spice.

We glammed up at Barbs and headed to Halal Guys for cheap eats! If you want to look fabulous check out Barbs on Queen Mary, and if you want to grab a fast bite while shopping downtown or roaming, then check out Halal Guys, especially for their falafels and hummus.
